Ok so I'm going to be working from home and I need to figure out the best way to make quick cheap positives at home. I have a couple regular HP Deskjet printers and can print on clear but only up to 8.5in X 11in. I have a shop that prints blueprints not too far way but I have to send the file, wait for them to output on vellum, and drive over to pick them up and hope I sent the files right and of course pay for them. So I'm looking for a home desktop printer that is affordable, prints nice and dark on vellum or clear acetate and prints larger than 8.5X11. Most designs I do will be about 13in X 15in. But I'm willing to work with an 11x17 printer. Any suggestions?

Re: Printing positives in Vellum at home
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 5:21 PMi used canon printers for a couple years when i first started out, they always printed nice and dark, then all of a sudden, they changed the forumla of their ink and they started printing too light. my costs were doubled, because i had to print two of the same design and line them up using clear tape. if you find anything out, please post it here, i would love to go back to printing my positives at home.

Re: Printing positives in Vellum at home
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 1:48 PMsounds strange but go to your local fed ex kinkos and pick up a few transparencies. print two transarencies for every individual layer you need, then line them up and tape them. it should give you a supper dark image but if it still isn't dark enough there are sprays that can make it darker. if it works go back and buy a ream.
good luck and i hope i helped -

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 1:51 PMlet me add that if you can't afford two transparencies for each layer then you're not charging enough because they really are not that much
